Setting a wage you can actually keep paying yourself

Pay yourself a steady amount you can defend in a quiet month — then protect it.

Owner pay that swings with every good week creates household chaos and business guilt.

Pick a base wage the business can pay in a below-average month. Pay that on a fixed day. Treat anything above it as a bonus only after tax and operating needs are covered.

Write the base number down and tell one other person — partner, bookkeeper, or mentor — so it is harder to silently abandon.

If the business cannot support that base wage for three months, the issue is the business model or costs, not your discipline alone.

Paying yourself is not greed. An unpaid owner is a hidden liability.
